Window Film Types

There are 2 primary types of window film. They are Metalized and Non-Metalized. Metalized films have a metallic “sheen” to them. Some are very slight, while others are more noticeable. They tend to hold out a lot more heat and UV (ultraviolet light which is what cracks and fades upholstery, dashboards, etc…) because they reflect the suns rays back out of the vehicle. Non-Metalized films also hold out heat, and UV, but they have no reflective “sheen”, and have a more “flat” look to them.

When you come in for your appointment, you will be shown all the different types, and degrees of tinting. We will explain all the laws, and make recommendations based on the color of your vehicle, and years of experience in what looks best on certain vehicles.

Degrees of tinting

Window film comes in 4 basic degrees as represented above. They are, from left to right, 50%, 35%, 20%, and 5%. Each state has their own set of laws regarding window film, as to what can be tinted, and how dark. VA state law is 50% on the front doors (all vehicles), and 35% around the back area (passenger cars), Trucks, Vans, and SUV’s are allowed anything they want in the rear area
